Our Cardboard Expedition

Have you ever experienced the brand new cardboard expedition before? Well just recently we had two wonderful gentlemen come to our school to show us what cool things we can do with it. The way they made it was obviously just get the box and transform it into a box that can be turned into a 3D box, and then pop in your smartphone and hop on the site and began the fun. “Mr Clark” did a show and tell about what we should do with it, just to keep it clean and make sure it doesn’t break and restarts.

But as soon as you look into the cardboard expedition, they put 3D goggles inside so that it would look realistic and way more exciting. So before we got to begin the excitement we had to listen to “Mrs Tele'a, and “Mr Clark” about the rules and how to hold it once the teachers pause the screen. And when we finish watching the 3D screen it will say “paused by teacher” and then they will ask us 3 interesting questions about who was in their? What kinds of creatures and animals were in the picture? And where were we (what country, city, or island) exactly?

We put the 3D cardboard on and explored the wonderful things around the world. The first place that we explored was the rain forest and it was so cool because it actually felt like I was there but I wasn’t if only the people, animals, and sky was able to move on the screen. This was my favorite place out of the other 10 places we visited because it felt calm, secured, and most of all the animals, insects and creatures in the rain forest we’re enjoying the quietness.

Oh I forgot! Once we visit the place that is on the screen we have to try and find an animal in the screen, guess which place we are and what season we are in. So as soon as we finish visiting that place they asked all of us those questions and I didn't actually guess I already knew that it was the rain forest because it was the look and the feel that told me it was the rain forest. But I didn’t quite know what season we were in and where the insect was.

I really hope we get to do this again because I really enjoyed and know that everyone else did. Because visiting places like that especially when it feels realistic can be very nice. Like Seeing people who have never seen before, spotting different things in the world that we have never noticed before, locating the places. And the cold blooded motions the change every 2 seconds maybe more. This was the best experience for the week!

Manaiakalani Story

MANAIAKALANI
Are you a part of the Manaiakalani family? Well Manaiakalani is a place where people enjoy watching movies and experiencing what other schools do compared to the school you go to. Usually every year my school “Pt England” go with “Tamaki College” but this year we are going with a school that has never been to one of these before. Which is “Ruapotaka primary and intermediate school”.

Some schools usually just make 10-15 movies but our school makes over 20 movies because it is based on each class room. So every year their school principals or teachers pick 2 people from their school to present in front of everyone to show and tell what their movie will be about. And my class presenters were me and one of my best friends Quasia. Manaiakalani has always been held in one place which is in “Sylvia Park at the cinemas”.

As we all sat on the mat in the street with our bags at 12.30pm, and our teachers trying to tell us how we need to act normal and do the right thing by striving to succeed in the cinemas. We all made our way to the buses that were waiting outside for us and we made our way to Sylvia Park to watch amazing and creative movies.

As we made our way there everyone besides the presenters had to sit in the front to get ready to present and show off our movie that we created as a class. Halfway through the movie this Tamaki College girl named “Gloria” presented a short film that shows everyone who is a year 8 and is going to Tamaki college can get a scholarship. When we finished watching all the movies after about an hour and a half I honestly think that room 2 had an awesome movie based on how you need to keep clean and always wash your germs away before touching someone or something.

As soon as we finished going to Manaiakalani we made our way back to the buses to go back to school. And as we went back to school we started doing our practice for the year 8 prize giving performance. I honestly think that this year was the best year ever but I would like to be a presenter for College again because it was so much fun this year especially facing my fair.

Farewell Mrs Moala

I would like to wish "Mrs Moala" the best for her new baby and I hope she goes through it well. I really wished that "Mrs Moala" didn't go but she had a very good reason for that and I am happy with my new teacher even though she isn't the same as "Mrs Moala".

"Mrs Moala" was one of the best teachers that I have ever had but "Mr Somerville" is still my first best teacher in the world. But have fun spending time with her baby girl/boy and spending  quality time with her husband and son. We all miss you heaps "Mrs Moala"!

Survivor Assembly

Immersion Assembly - T4W1Y15
____________________________________________
Our starting  of term 4 was the best! Why? Because we have a new teacher in room 4 and her name is “Miss Hockly”. But unfortunately our old teacher “Mrs Moala” who was our amazing teacher for the first 3 terms for 2015 had to go because she had a new baby coming soon. We are all happy for “Mrs Moala and her loving family, and we can’t wait for the new baby to arrive”. And hopefully she comes and visits us very shortly!

So to start of the year with a little kick like usual, our school had an immersion assembly in the school hall. When we have an immersion assembly the teachers would have to present in front of all the students, in the school hall, what their team will be doing for the rest of the term. But to start it off like an intro we watched a short film made by our school principal “Mr Burt” and his helpful helpers “Ana Vaafusuaga, Jordan Samuel's and Jalen Watene”.

After watching that extremely weird film made by the amazing filmers and actors in team 5 and Mr Burt was fun. But out of the 5 teams that I enjoyed as my most favorite has got to be team 4. Why? Because it was humorous, it had a lot of experience in it and it was just fun to watch the children guess what was behind them.

“So welcome up team 4”. Well welcome our students in team 4 will be working on how to adapt and learn more about the experience that the wild animals have been through. Like what they eat, their habitat and their ways of living. So their was a choice of 4-5 students trying t o guess what was behind them.

Their only clue was? Oh wait they didn’t get a clue but their out coming answers for what was the wild creature and their habitat behind them. These are the real answers to the 5 people.
  1. A lion
  2. A snake
  3. A gorilla/monkeys
  4. Fish under the deep blue sea
  5. A shark
But the answers that they came up with was....And this is in order from one to five.
  1. Candy Land
  2. Under water
  3. A kangaroo
  4. In the sky with clouds
  5. Birds

Oh and just before everyone went back to class the fabulous “Mr Burt and Mrs Burt” called out 10 boys, and girls! The reason why those 10 kids got called out is because they have been posting blog post on to their blogs and when they do that they win something cool. So they have to stay after assembly on Friday to receive their prize.

My Writing Task for week 9 - TREE

For our writing task for week 9 we had to do our TREE comprehension. I have finished this entire slide show plus my own piece of writing and then had to check it with the TREE in that one day. I mainly finished the rest at home on the same day but published it all today. Hopefully you will like it and learn a little bit from it if you haven't done this before.

Writing Explanation - How can we save money?

How can we save money? Well saving up money is a hard thing to do especially if you have no job and to many kids in the house. But their is always a solution to a serious problem like this, for example! If you don’t buy expensive things, spend all your hard working money in one day and spending your money on silly things that you don’t even need! That’s why there’s a thing called keeping it to the budget.

Parents in our days always go to a job interview to try and get them a well earn job so that they can earn money for their family and the house bills. There’s so many ways of saving up money like giving the money back to your parents if they give you pocket money or if you take it then hiding your money in your piggy bank and then giving the rest of the money to your parents when they are on a budget and don’t have any money left for food.

Some people are lucky and some people are not? What I am trying to say here is the word ‘gambling’. Gambling is a fear shot of trying to win some money but in our days it doesn’t really work out as well as we hoped it would. But unless everyone gives it a try to saving up money because it isn’t an easy thing to do especially on a budget.

Trade an Enterprise

Our topic for 2015, term 3 is "Trade an Enterprise". So this topic is teaching and showing us how and what it looks like to "be enterprising, and how to be financially responsible. Team 5 is learning how to be "financially responsible" with our money. So we are doing a lot of creative things this term such as all the other teams at "Pt England school".

Shopping week 2 Explanation

For week 2 in our inquiry home classes we have to focus on how to be financially responsible, with our money, when we're on a budget? So the first thing we had to do is create a google form listing the things that we could buy from the store with the amount of money that we pick out the bucket as our budget. So our listing things are Items that we need at home, brand, how much does each item cost and what does it add up to once we add every single item together. And if we don't have enough money to spend on the items that we need that is already listed we have to list all the things that we don't need.

"I know by now that you don't actually know what I am talking about but I will explain it properly now"! So once we list all the things that we need for our budget, with our listed amount of money of the cost of each item and added them all up by "sum". Then we would need to go to our home teacher "Miss Moala" and pick out a small piece of paper that say's the amount of money for our budget". So for example lets say I got our $200.00 as my budget. And I got $2.70 worth f items then I would have to take away some items over $70.00.

And the market that we have to shop at is "Count Down". Which is actually really hard because every would rather go to "Pack'n'save". Where everything is on a low price like "$2.00 week, $1.00 week and much more lower prices. And we are shopping by there site because they can deliver the food to your house instead of you going up to get yourself.

Needs VS Wants

‘NEEDS’ and ‘WANTS’

Introduction:
How we spend money all depends on things that we need and things that we want. “This essay will explain what the difference is between what a ‘want’ is and what a ‘need’ is. Its things that people are eyeing out, desperately want, or been needing it for quite some time. What does it feel like to spend money on things that is needed and wanted?

What is a want?
How can we be financially responsible if all people want to spend their money on, is on things that they “want” instead of needs? Like spending your money something that is just knew in the store that you really want, but you can’t hold back to wait and buy it later “because you never know if what you want is going to run out”. Things that you desperately want are things that are on high prices. Like for example Samsung touch screen water resistant, large TV screens, goodies (lollies, chocolate, chips, fizzy) and video games. Most of all spending your money these expensive items won’t really lead you to a happy life in the future “because these are just luxury items”.

What is a need?
What are necessity items that we need for our school, family and most of all ourselves? The parents children go out working for money to help pay for the bills, groceries, clothing and things that are needed at home. Things are very expensive in our days because when people go to the super markets “the shopkeepers put their prices so high, and sometimes it’s impossible for people to pay for items in the shop”. Like going to the bank early in the morning or late at night to get out the money from the bank. The first thing that we desire are things that we want but we desperately know we need to pay is groceries for the house and the bills (light bill, tv bill, house bill, electric bill). Clothing, food, water, drinks and so much more. These are all the things that we need not want. If we have no money at all then what can we do? That’s why our government had all these jobs for people to work their way for money for their families. Or holding a garage sale and selling some of the things that you don’t need or old things in your house!

Why is one more important than the other?
How do we find difference between a want and a need and which one is more important to help us in the future? From my point of view I agree with “need” because sometimes things just happen out of no where like for example “today is a ‘sunny day’ and 2 minutes later out of no where ‘rain’ starts pouring from the sky”. It’s just like me wanting to buy the Samsung 6 edge but they haven’t paid for the bills and food for the children and families staying our lovely homes. Most of the time I ask my mum for things that I want which isn’t fair for the rest of the people in the house and that’s why people work all day long by wages and celery for the money to help around the house. Needing things is much, much, much important than needing things because needing things is just you being greedy, inconvenient and childish. Helping out your parents is the most important thing in the world, not money, school, and your future even if it does count but it’s definitely family.

Explanation - How do people receive and spend money?

Title explanation
How do people receive and spend money? Some people get money from working at a job, or asking for a loan (a loan is when someone asks another person for some money just until they get paid) because they're broke, or by earning the money. Like for example let’s say that the teachers at Pt England school and all the other schools all around the world get paid $100.00 ph as their wages.
________________________________________________________

Introduction-Paragraph 1
How do they and who do they receive the money from? The money is a world wide currency, that is given to the government and, the government gives the money to the school, mechanics, hospital, and those other jobs as well. But just for example let me explain the amount of money the teachers get at school for teaching the students. Well first the schools give the money to the teachers after getting the money from the government. How does the government know the right amount of money that he/she needs to give to the schools all around New Zealand? The government knows the right amount of money to give to the schools, because the principles that are in charge of the school tells the government the amount of teachers that are at school every day. So really it only depends on the amount of teachers that are teaching at the school.

Paragraph 2
How do they receive/earn the money? Some well earned kids will probably get paid from they're parents for helping out with the chores around the house. Or from delivering newspapers to the houses. Or if your parents got paid over the amount of money that they usually have, and then they just give you money for being a good girl/boy. Or holding a garage sale selling all the old stuff that you don’t want any more, or delicious baking. And your parents probably get paid from working so hard at their job, some parents get paid from wages or by salary. “Salary” the boss at the work has to pay the people that work they're have to get paid $12.70 per hour, they are not aloud to pay them less then that. Because if they do then they are just ripping you off, and besides it against the law to do that. So just for example if I work from 8am until 9pm then I should get paid $177.80. ( so I will be working for at least 14 hours -(14 x 10 = 140) + (14 x 2 = 28) = 168 + (7.0 x .10 = 7.00) + (7.0 x .4 = 2.80) = 9.80 + 168 = $177.80. “Wages” is when you get you paid every day, or week because some people get paid when they work at school, so really all the do is show up at school from the beginning and leave a while after the kids leave. Then they choose to get paid every fort night, day or something. Because I wouldn’t really want to know the right amount of money all the school teachers get every year the work!

Paragraph 3
How do we/they spend their money and what do they spend it on? If I had $250.80 I would save $50.80 for me for what I want and give the rest of the money to my parents for the bored. food, things they and we need. Or some people will either surprise them by buying them a gift like a video game if they like it, some delicious bakery food or things from the diary, Mcdonalds, Karls JNR. Or previously thinking about what the person could do with the money. However do you think that person will spend it all on her/his self, share it out between his/her family for groceries and house things. Or buying some sweets for the kids, or even saving it up for when it is needed. Clothes, magazines anything that, that person admires.

Paragraph 4
What are some additional ways that I could receive money? I actually earn money by helping out around the house, by doing house chores. I am a good netball player but still making my way from being a pro (professional) netball player like my friends, I am still working on some things. So what I am trying to say here is that I am one of the “professional netball umpires, that referees the netball games at the A.M.I netball courts”. I was a newspaper deliverer, giving out news papers to the houses. I some time baby sit my cousins, nieces and nephews so I get paid as well.

The very first thing that I do with the money is give half of the money to my mum, or dad, so that they can spend it on anything that want. I buy sweets, chunk food for me but most of the time I buy myself some fruit with some ice-cream at the dairy so that when I get home I can make me and my family a scrumptious milk shake. Most of the time I will save it up in my bank account, so that when I need something then I can use it if needed. I do a lot of things with the money that I earn. The only different thing that I do with the money is buying clothes, heaps of food, and shoes at Sylvia part.

My time at Pt England school for term 2

How was your time during term 2? For our topic at Pt England school we are learning and focusing on doing "Tinkering tools and toys". My 3 most favorite highlights for term 2 is enjoying my short amount of time with the year 7's, the teachers and all the other students at Pt England school. If I had 2 wishes one of them would be for me to stay at Pt England school, because I am so scared of college it just seems so hard and confusing. But everyone say'd "that college is hard especially on the first day, but you will enjoy it once you get to know everyone that likes having your company".

The 2nd highlight for term to, is beating my high scores in reading, writing, maths, Kapa Haka, helping the teachers, and even better P.E.S ( Pt England sports). I can not wait until holidays start, but I can not wait until term 3 starts for 2015. My very last highlight for 2015 term 2 is, finishing off my work properly, but still need to work on presenting and being confident enough to talk in front of everyone with out a glitch "because being shy is one of the things that I am really, really good at".

The 2 thing that I will improve in term 3 is, getting higher levels or scores in my tests, and competing in every sport and auditions.

PES should not have a school uniform

PES should not have a school uniform:
What do you think Pt England school should do, from deciding if we should have school uniform or not? I agree that we should not have school uniform, because it saves the people’s time who creates them for us at Pt England school. And if we don’t have school uniform then it saves us from paying money to the school, when we can just wear the clothes that we already have. our mufti clothes.

But there's another twist. Because the money that we pay the school to buy our uniform helps our school save up money for things that are needed. The children can look the exact same instead of looking O.T.L (only the lonely). Ever since weave continued wearing school uniform everyone enjoyed wearing jackets, jumpers, culottes, track-pants and all these amazing clothings that have been created by these amazing people.

If Pt England school students don’t have proper uniform, which is what we call “not wearing it with pride”. Then everyone will start wearing mufti then everyone will look really odd. I agree that Pt England school shouldn't have to wear uniform in school. Because if we don’t have school uniform then we would have to get a “dress pass from Mr Jacobson”. It can also save people from washing their uniform and waiting for them to dry in just 2 days, because sometimes it takes longer to wash and dry or you might loose your uniform and then you would have to buy more uniforms for yourself.

So I would just like wear mufti instead of wearing our school uniform. because most of the time I can’t find my jacket and culottes. So I just go to school wearing my school T-shirt and shorts, but it is so cold because I can’t find my jacket so I just wear a mufti jumper.

My persuasive writing statement

My statement - Do I “AGREE” or “DISAGREE”...
I think kids should be aloud to play outside a lot longer than the usual time they are given. I also think the teachers should have a little time out for a while so they can get a little fresh air, and the children can give them a kit kat ( a break ). Because the kids get free time way more than the teachers. But that's because the kids need to clean out their heads before getting work, and that is really the only way the kids are able to turn their brains on for class work.

It is aloud that the pupils should be having less play time outside of the classroom and more time learning more about digital life, writing, reading, maths, inquiry, well school work is much important than playing around outside. So I think the teacher’s should make the kids do exercise during the afternoon and maybe in the morning if it isn’t pouring down. And if it is raining really badly then they can do a little warm up dance of “jump jam”.

Or if the teachers don’t want that to happen, then instead of doing exercises then stay in class and do more school work, and less playing outside than 1 hour. The children really do love playing outside but they should really be doing more school work, because probably by the time they go into class their heads will be tired out from all that playing outside. This problem that I can now see, is actually a huge problem if you look into it properly. Because the children aren't learning more than they should be, and by the time they head off to college they would probably only know 3/4 of what the teachers are explaining than what they should be. And it won’t be the student’s fault it will be the teacher’s fault.

So I agree and disagree with the situation that I just read in the text, which is to give the children less play time outside and more learning time during class. And more exercising in class so the kids don’t feel left out on playing outside more often. But I think the only reason why the kids are let out earlier it so that the teachers can finish off their unfinished work, like the children's reports, making them knew assessments, activities, WALT, tasks for them to keep them busy. Because I am in the middle of the situation, because if the children stay in more longer than the teacher’s will be pretty busy, just like the students.

Moo-Juicer for 2015

Have you ever been a moo-juicer before, or do you know what a moo-juicer is? Well if you don't know what a moo-juicer is, well it is a group of kids that give out milk to the classes all around the school. The first thing they have to do is to stack up the fridge with milk, and stack up the trolley with milk for the classes. When I say milk I don't mean just one bottle of milk, I mean little cartons of milk but in a box with 24 in each one.

I love being a moo-juicer, because it is fun giving out stuff to the classes and helping out with anything to do around the school. Since it is my last year at Pt England School I would like to enjoy it and also help with anything that is needed. I got into begin a moo-juicer because

Writing an Explanation - Why is it important to wash our hands

So for our writing task today we are focusing on writing an explanation about “why is it important to wash our hands. The reason why I have chosen to write about this, is because their is a lot of reasons why people all around the world should wash their hands. The main reason why people should wash their hands is because if they don’t then people around them will catch it and it won’t be nice. So this little thing may sound like it doesn't really matter but it does okay, and this is why........

Why do we need to wash our hands? Well keeping your hands clean is the best way to avoid getting sick and spreading germs that have taken over your hands to other. Many conditions and diseases are spread by if you don’t wash your hands with soap and clean water, it will get worse. This is the most important step that you can possibly take to avoid sickness. Washing your hands is the most bet why to stop germs from taking over, and from you spreading it. Learn how to wash your hands if you don’t know how to yet?

How do we/you wash your/our hands? Well I can tell you the 6 most important and best steps on how to wash your hands. So step 1, wet your hands with warm or even hot water only if you can handle it but don’t use hot water if you can’t so if you're 11 years old up then yes you can use hot water but if not then just use warm water okay. Step 2, the grab a soap any soap will do you don’t need those nice expensive ones because it will be a waste of time. So yep wash you hands with soap for 20-25 seconds. step 3, remember to scrub both side of your hands. Step 4, then rinse your hands thoroughly for 10-15 seconds tops. Step 5, then use a towel to turn off the faucet, particularly in a public bathroom. And last but not least then get a clean towel and dry your hand for about another 15-20 seconds.

Hi audience, how has your reading about my story above been? Was it interesting about the things that you haven’t known before? Well I have one more thing or things to tell you which is the habits and the most important things that you must know about washing hands. Which is......

Practicing good sanitation habits is how your hands are not clean and you have touched your or someone else’s face in public surfaces. Well you may be infecting yourself as well as other people around you because spreading germs and disease may recently survey while 92% of adults in the U.S claimed they regularly wash their hands after and before using the restroom (the toilet), but only 77% of people actually did and do. Colds and flues are one of the infections diarrhea are all known as touching and spread when you contact someone or something and then someone else touches it.

So this is a good point on washing your hands because now you know that if you don’t wash you hands you could have a chance of catching the cold, flu and you could possibly have a rheumatic fever if you don’t see a doctor as soon as you can. Keep yourself and those around you healthy by controlling the spread of germs as well as removing plain dirt, after playing outside, before cooking or touching food, after going to the toilet, after coughing and blowing your nose. All those little things are actually big things.

Maths - Talk moves in our team discussions

For our maths class, we have been working on doing talk moves for the last few weeks. I had Quasia, Ashley, and Rowana in my group and our group name was "Royals". The question that were asked was? The petrol prices went up overnight and now one litre of gas at most petrol stations are $2.18.

My car needs 20L to be on full so how much do I have to pay? and The petrol price remains at $2.18 but I need to fill my truck for a trip down to Hamilton. My truck needs 60L to be on full so how much will I pay? So we worked it out on our pieces of paper to see if we can use different equations in our minds, not using cheat or calculator.
