The Pt England Way

Pt England school is talking about the Pt England Way. The Point England Way is all about people caring for each other, and being respectful to everyone. It also includes looking after the little kids even if they are brand new to our school. One of our school values is Better Together and Co-operating together, which is a part of Kia Pai Te Kotahi. For this year, we are learning about the value Tiaki Taonga. All of these values make up the Pt England Way.

The Pt England Way all started in 2001. It gave people ability to do the right thing at the right time with the right attitude. Mr Burt, our principal, and Mrs Burt probably had been planing this for a long time, but didn't have the time to tell any one. So once it came to 2001 all the teachers had a staff meeting and they came up The Pt England Way.

Our Kawa of care (the way we do things) Is all in the Point England way. Its not just about our school its also about our family and friends. Everyone is now knowing what the Point England way is meaning to them, like knowing how it feels to be sad and lonely, or getting in to fights and stopping them. Now everyone is happy and safe together.

On Friday mornings our school has this thing called our Korero, and do you know what it helps us with? It can help us by being kind and respectful to one another for example. Putting your self in their shoes and knowing what they mean or Co-operating with each other. Our Value for 2014 is Tiaki Taonga. Going towards our goals, and going by the rules. If you didn't know that the Korero is helping us with the Pt England Way. Well now you do!

About the Treaty of Waitangi

On February the 6th 1840, the Treaty of Waitangi had come to New Zealand. So that more Maori and British people could sign the Treaty of Waitangi. The agreement in the contract was to bring peace and help us solve the problems that had been going on all around New Zealand. William Hobson had written the Treaty of Waitangi on behalf of Queen Victoria.

Today was the day for all Maori people and British people to sign the Treaty of Waitangi. All the Maori people couldn't fix what the problems were and how it could get be solved. It was a misunderstanding for the 2 versions of the English and Maori.

The Maori people were discussing how this could help everyone in New Zealand. Not many people all around New Zealand had food and water. So they new that some one had to sign the Treaty of Waitangi and, They were wondering who is going to be signing the Treaty of Waitangi, first out of all us Maori's.

So Hone Heke had decided to be one of the first chiefs to sign the Treaty of Waitangi. That is how all the British people, gave us peace and helped us with our problems. So more and more people all around New Zealand signed the Treaty of Waitangi, and wrote Moko as there signature.
